Scotch 82 Wraps 2020 & Milestone 3 (Growing Together)

Scotch 82 Wraps 2020 and Achieves Milestone 3 (Growing Together)

Towards Zero Suicides...

Our last Year Group Get-together, before our 40 Year Reunion, will be in 2021 & BY PEER GROUP REQUEST!

See OSCA's "Well Being" website page -> https://www.oscanet.com.au/osca-thrive/ for furthter Peer Group ideas.

Please ensure you get in contact with our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group, by the end of May (2021), if you'd like your Peer Group to be a part of organizing a Year Group Get-together.

Christine Morgan, Australia's Chief Suicide Prevention Officer, recently wrote:

"“We also need a culture shift so the onus is not on the individual to put their hand up and ask for help, but capacity is being built for a range of service systems and individuals to offer support to those in need,” Ms Morgan said." (see -> https://www.mentalhealthcommission.gov.au/…/committed-to-wo…?

All of our Classmates are welcome to join our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group to consider the merits of a 2021 Year/Peer Group Get-together.

Please contact Mark Learner, our Active Admins Group Membership Admin, to join with your fellow Classmates who are taking up the challenge of using Social Media to help contribute towards a Year Group approach for achieving Zero Suicides, as we continue with Social Media Groups to help those who feel voiceless, so they may feel supported and keep moving towards feeling heard!!

Equal Chief Editors Report:

Under our Scotch 82 Equal Opportunity Guideline, our Classmates are able to contribute and exchange "Editors in Chief" oversight of our Scotch 82 End of Year Wrap for 2020.

Q. What is a Prototyping and Milestone Methodology as it relates to Milestone 3?

A.  In a nutshell, since 2012, we've been helping our Classmates to Reconnect, Reconcile, and Reunite, as we head towards our next 10 Year Reunion, in 2022, all whilst facebook has been developing it's platform, and OSCA have been developing and implementing their (Social Media) Strategic Planning.

scotch82wrap2014.blogspot.com

Utilizing a Prototyping and Milestone Methodology

Prototyping, in this sense, means we've gradually been discovering the how Social Media, primarily utilizing facebook, relates to our Online and Offline needs, and we've been doing this as a part of OSCA's utilization of 21st Century Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

https://images.app.goo.gl/aL3FwDU46yDfCC8T9

Milestones have helped us to collect together all the challenges and achievements we've faced as a Year, so far, bringing us closer to a Social Media Model Proposal (that we can Vote on?), with OSCA's new Constitution, Medium Term Strategic Planning, and Long Term Pastoral Care Objectives (see OSCA's Annual Reports ->   https://oscanet.com.au/#oscaannualreports) all in mind.

Milestone 1

AUGUST 2014, Milestone 1 established the Narrative we started about EQUALITY, and we continue to HONOUR ONE & HONOUR ALL.

OSCA's message of TRUST has helped us to Share Power Equally, whilst embracing Transparency, and an Equal Admin Opportunity approach.

Life Transitions started our Friendship Support and Care, and we included our OSCA Chaplain in helping us Get-together face 2 face, and Classmates exploring OSCA's Mentoring initiative.

(Milestone 1 facebook post ->   https://www.facebook.com/Scotch1982/photos/a.229404723857570/507708256027214/?type=3&theater)

Milestone 2

JULY 2015, Milestone 2 saw me almost give up, as we'd been hacked, but ADMIN ROLES emerged as well as our Transitional Scotch College Class of 1982 facebook page.

Classmates Proposed and Seconded our FRIENDSHIP, ACTIVE ADMINS, & BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES facebook groups. BLOGGER, TWITTER, & INSTAGRAM pages were added to assist.

SCOTCH 82 SUPPORT provided a place for  Classmates' needs, assisted by Jim Glaspole & Andy Evans, with my OSCA Mentor, Andrew Wilson, helping create a Life Transitions/Friendship Support setting.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS got a blog format, as did some ANALYTICS, a POSTING GUIDE, and we REFORMATTED SCOTCH 82 with GUIDELINES.

(Milestone 2 facebook post ->   https://www.facebook.com/Scotch1982/photos/a.229404723857570/645013005630071/?type=3&theater)

NB: We've been able to assist Classmates who have been struggling with very personal concerns that relate to their time at Scotch College, and that were brought into the light by the Royal Commission's Findings into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, in the media, on our facebook page(s) and in our groups setting, as well as during our Scotch 82 face 2 face Get-togethers.

Milestone 3

Review of Scotch 82's Social Media Scope

During Milestones 1 & 2 we developed some Guidelines about how we can have our Year Group's Social Media Profile Managed on an Equal Admins Opportunities basis.

Prototyping allows for Classmates to create a Profile on a Social Media platform, and then encouraging Classmates to become involved.  Our Social Media scope is about meeting the needs and requests of our Classmates within the platform's ability to meet those needs.

Simply put, some good ideas our Classmates have wanted to explore have been successful and ongoing on a Social Media site, others may have a shorter life, and others might include OSCA making changes to their Social Media Strategic Plan, for example.

PART A: SCOTCH 82 TEMPORARY LANDING PAGE CONCLUDES

scotch82wrap2014.blogspot.com
Our search for Equality meant giving our Classmates' Social Media Profiles a Landing Page on Scotch 82, which also provided OSCA with some feedback, and we've seen our OSCAnet website improved by adding Social Media options to our Member Profile.

In seeking to prototype David Klinger's Action Request below, this also gave us a TEMPORARY Business Opportunities Landing Page, as our Classmates adjusted to their Social Media Business (facebook) pages being developed.

"Classmates Post Goods or Services" lead to a "Scotch 82 Recommend Album", with Mike Poynter's 30 Years Service as our OSCA Representative Honoured with his MCP Group website included ->   https://www.mcpgroup.com.au/.

As our Scotch 82 Businesses Group gained further traction from Classmates Business Opportunities sharing experiences, we moved our Scotch 82 facebook Recommended Album into our Scotch 82 Businesses Group.

Furthermore, we started to LIKE Classmates facebook pages that Support our Year's Reconnect, Reconcile, and Reunite oriented initiatives, but is Not considered to be Landing Page type objective.

NB: Liking our Classmates pages is Not about advertising for a fee, nor any other type of fiscal remuneration, but rather forms a kind of OSCA & Scotch Family Community related initiative.

PART B: SCOTCH 82 LINKEDIN GROUP CONCLUDES

David Klinger's Action Request and (Requirements 1 above) was further explored in scope, by Creating a linkedIn Group, and invitations to join were sent out, as were requests to join from our Classmates accepted.

OSCA have taken up the challenge of providing "Business Opportunities", that includes their linkedIn Group -> https://www.linkedin.com/groups/2645758/ and recently created OSCAconnect, a new Group and Social Media Networking enhanced website (see -> https://oscaconnect.com.au/).

OSCAnet's Business Directory improvements (see ->   https://oscanet.com.au/#businessnetworkinghub), have also helped us to further refine our Classmates (Business related) Business Opportunity needs/requirements, with all Old Boys benefiting.

Under our Scotch 82 Guidelines (see ->  https://www.facebook.com/pg/Scotch1982/photos/?tab=album&album_id=760134317451272) a Scotch82Link Seconder was advertised for in Scotch82Link & Scotch 82 Businesses (our facebook Group), but not found.

Therefore, as linkedIn does not provide an Archiving feature for Groups (at the present time), "Scotch82link" has been deleted until further notice.

PART C: SCOTCH 82 ACTIVE ADMINS GROUP/OSCA-CONNECT GROUPS
SECURITY REVIEW

As part of our Scotch 82 "Litteris" initiative for our facebook Group Admins, a Review was conducted of our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group settings.

OSCAconnect (see -> https://oscaconnect.com.au/) Groups are NOT "Public", meaning the Groups' Members and Content are Secret to the general public.

Therefore, it's been decided, as a result of our Group Review, to no longer display who our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group Members are too, and that the group remain "Secret".

A Security Review was not needed for our Scotch 82 Businesses Group, as it remains a Secret Group, and we have not revealed who Group Members are at any stage, in our Scotch 82 End of Year Wraps.

For more on our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group, see "Scotch 82 Active Admins" in the next section.

PART D: SCOTCH 82 FRIENDSHIP GROUP ARCHIVED (FOR NOW)

Our Scotch 82 Friendship (Secret) Group has been archived.  The Archiving was carried out by our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group acting collectively, with Scotch 82 being the Admin, a feature of our Scotch 82 facebook page being linked to a Group, which is overseen by our Active Admin Group Members.

Significantly, consideration has been given to the welfare of the Members of our Scotch 82 Friendship Group, with Members being encouraged to join our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group, as the forum for ongoing discussions that were started in our Friendship Group.

For a detailed review how this Group Decision was arrived at, please see ->   https://scotch82friendshipgroupdecision.blogspot.com/2019/11/scotch-82-social-media-decision-making.html

PART E: SCOTCH COLLEGE CLASS OF 1982 GROUP ARCHIVED (FOR NOW)

Following a review of the need for a Proposer and Seconder for our Scotch 82 facebook Groups to be linked to our Scotch 82 facebook page, as per our Scotch 82 Guidelines (see ->   https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=Scotch1982&set=a.760134317451272 ), our Scotch College Class of 1982 (Secret) Group is no longer required as a kind of Active Admins group to our now Unpublished facebook page "Scotch College Class of 1982".

PART F: INTEGRATION OF SCOTCH 82 POSTS ACROSS SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS

SCOTCH 82 LINKED TO TWITTER, INSTAGRAM POSTS, GOOGLE +, SCOTCH 82 ACTIVE ADMINS & SCOTCH 82 BUSINESSES GROUPS

The final part of Milestone 3 is achieved by giving our Classmates plenty of time to review how our Year uses Social Media Platforms, and the different features offered.  The two posts to Scotch 82 (below) dated October 9, and June 29, provide an example of our Public Consultation, with the opportunity for feedback.

There have been No Action Requests for further Scotch 82 Profiles on Social Media Platforms, and a Review is being conducted within our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group of other platforms that Classmates have used in the past ie School Feed.

It is hoped by mid 2021, a Draft Proposal that our Classmates might vote on will be agreed upon between Mick Arnott and Geoff Marum, which can be put to the vote.  Accordingly, this will be distributed, if necessary, to our Classmates as part of our Scotch 82 End of Year Wrap for 2021.

NB. OSCA Connect (register -> https://oscaconnect.com.au/)  potentially offers the ability for Year Groups to have their own Social Media like environment, similar to a facebook Group.

Following the June 29 Posted 3 month public consultation on Scotch 82 facebook, as well as Scotch82tweets on Twitter, there was no objection to linking our Posts between these two Social Media Platforms.

Furthermore, there has been no objection to our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group being the appropriate space for Post reviews and pre-Post discussions for Posts that will appear on Integrated Scotch 82 Social Media Sites.

In practice, this means that our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group has proven itself to be a great space for (interested) Classmates to make decisions about our Social Media Adventure, that may potentially affect how our Year Group's, Scotch Family's, and OSCA Social Media Strategic Plan is being reviewed and implemented, over time.

post link -> https://www.facebook.com/Scotch1982/photos/a.229404723857570/1893583757439650/

Welcome!!

In this Scotch 82 End of Year Wrap, we've taken a close look at how we are arriving at Milestone 3 (see Equal Chief Editors Report, above), as well as how we've been keeping our Classmates up to date about the similarities that are developing between OSCA's Social Media Plan, that includes OSCAConnect, and Scotch 82's use of social media, to help our Year Group Reconnect, Reconcile, and Reunite at our 40 Year Reunion, in approximately 18 months time.

Practically speaking, over the next 18 months, our Classmates will make their own choice about what type of Social Media Environment suits their needs, and OSCA will have direct feedback by utilizing the Analysis Section of the Social Media Platforms in use, as well as OSCAnet, that lists the number of Classmates who have registered their email address, and OSCAConnect, which lists the number of Classmates who have registered their Social Media Profiles.

Similarly, our Scotch 82 Social Media Profiles give our Year Group feedback about the interest our Classmates have in using Social Media.  Together, there is plenty of potential for OSCA and our Scotch Family to provide Year Group types of Pastoral Care and Support, if a coordinated approach is adopted by consulting with Young and Older Old Boys alike.

Peer Groups have received attention since we started our Social Media Adventure, and strengthening Peer Group ties that existed at school, and of Groups that formed since, has remained a focus of Scotch Family Life, and Social Media has proven itself to aid this important aspect of "The Scotch Thread".

Welcome to our 2020 End of Year Wrap!!  There is plenty to consume, for those interested, and thank-you for being a part of our Year Group's Social Media Adventure again in 2020!

Michael Arnott
Equal Classmate

Farewell Sandy!

Thank-you to our Scotch 82 Support Influencers, Andrew Wilson (OSCA President), Graham Bradbeer (OSCA Chaplain) and Scott Montgomery (OSCA Executive Director).

Also, Thank-you to our Scotch 82 Classmates, who have undertaken supportive (Secret) Group Admin Roles, Camerson Cantley-Smith (Scotch 82 Businesses), and Mark Learner (Scotch 82 Active Admins), and our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group Members.

And Thank-you to Naomie Nicole, who has provided our Year Group with Prayer Support, in addition to our OSCA Chaplain, Graham Bradbeer.

Thank-you to all our Classmates who have contributed Questions and Answers again in 2020!  Please click on this link -> https://scotch82qandaupdate2020.blogspot.com/2021/01/scotch-82-q-2020-update-exploring.html  to read this years blog, which primarily consists of our Social Media Posts that have been made throughout 2020, plus there is blog links to our previous Questions and Answers, from 2019 & 2018.  Great effort everyone!!

"It's Not Weak to Speak"

Let's also acknowledge the wonderful effort being made in 2020 by our Young Old Boys to help our Scotch College Students, all Old Boys, and our entire Scotch Family to promote the importance of Mental Health!  Great Job Yobs, and Thank-you!!

Survivors Not Forgotten

Those who have survived Institutional Child Sexual Abuse have not been forgotten by our Classmates!

This year the Presbyterian Church joined the National Redress Scheme, and a Direct Response Initiative has been put into action for those who perhaps feel that the Presbyterian Church needs to (also) hear about their Abuse (see -> https://pcv.org.au/nrs/ ).

"Direct Personal Responses are arranged via the Church National Redress Scheme Contact Person, Mrs Fiona Bligh. Fiona works directly with each survivor throughout the process and she can be contacted by phone on 0499 090 449 during business hours. Alternatively, email nrs@pcv.org.au."

Future of 2020 Scotch 82 Groups.

Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group.

Our Active Admins Group continues to explore making Group Decisions, and Admining our Scotch 82 Integrated Social Media Profiles.

Our Classmates can get involved in discussing the finer details how we might set out to plan Year Group Get-togethers and, where necessary, Peer Groups can benefit from a facebook Group forum that also seeks to involve our Scotch 82 Support Influencers.

All Classmates are encouraged to add their further thoughts on the merits of having Year/Peer Group Get-togethers, over the next six weeks, keeping in mind that COVID Normal means our planning time frame may also need to be altered to suit any future Wave.  (Please also keep in mind previous year Planning Outlines on our facebook page).

2021 BBQ Campfire with Gotcha4Life....
As we head into the New Year, our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group will be thinking about how we can strengthen our Year/Peer Group face to face experiences, especially since our BBQs and Campfires have been so popular.
Gotcha 4 Life is starting to have an impact, and it's great to see OSCA Wellbeing is taking note -> https://www.oscanet.com.au/osca-thrive/
Please check out this link for some great Stats and thoughts on Gotcha 4 Life -> https://www.gotcha4life.org/tomorrow-man
Thanks friends for helping to strenthen our Peer/Year Groups, with face to face get-togethers, in 2021.
❤ 🙂

Active Admins Group also considers the merits of sending emails and messages to OSCA and our Scotch 82 Support Influences in our OSCA President, Andrew Wilson, OSCA Executive, Scott Montgomery, and OSCA Chaplain, Graham Bradbeer.

Seeking our Support Influencers input and ideas about how we can help our Classmates to Reconnect, Reconcile, and Reunite, as we head towards our next 10 Year Reunion in 2022, helps everyone in our Year to be assured we are active members of our Scotch Family.

Scotch 82 Businesses (Secret) Group.

Our Business Group, in 2020, has also explored making Group Decisions, as we think about how our Year Group can utilize Scotch 82 Integrated Social Media Profiles, within the context of Scotch Family Business Networking, and the Business Opportunities being presented to us, like via OSCA Connect (see -> https://oscaconnect.com.au/ ).

In the digital information business world, this year, we've become so much more aware of how we might go online, and it's great to know OSCA are keeping up with the challenges of the times.
Leverage your Business Opportunities, and join the new Scotch Family Directory found with lots of great alumni features at OSCA Connect -> https://oscaconnect.com.au/

What's ahead in 2021 for our Scotch 82 Businesses (Secret) Group?
I will be encouraging our Classmates to think about joining OSCAConnect, and in particular the Groups aspect of the website, where there are Business Opportunities, and there is a link to OSCA's linkedIn Group.
Additionally, I'd like to continue to encourage discussion about what our Classmates are doing using Social Media for Business, and perhaps we can think about what a Scotch College Education means in the Business world today.
Thanks Cameron Cantley-Smith for continuing to Admin this Group in 2021!

Keeping Groups Active....

It's pretty simply really!

A Mid-2021 Draft Proposal (for our Year to eventually vote on) from Mick Arnot and Geoff Marum is a very real possibility, at this stage, as our Year continues our 40 Year Reunion Count Down (see "Chief Editors Report" above for more on Milestone 3), and this Draft Proposal will also be about Scotch 82 Groups being kept Active, as need be.

If OSCA can do a better job at keeping our Year Group and our Year's Peer Groups together, using Social Media, then perhaps there will be a need to take a fresh look at a Re-Draft Social Media Proposal and Guidelines (as it relates to a final proposal we can vote on), in our Scotch 82 End of Year Wrap for 2021!?  (Guidelines Album ->  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=Scotch1982&set=a.760134317451272 )

Messages and emails to OSCA about Year Group Guidelines have attempted to gain more of a further  insight into what might be useful for our Year to consider.

IF There Are No Objections!!

Synergistic communication with OSCA, that needs take a Group discussion format will change from being Public, on our Scotch 82 Social Media Profiles and OSCA's facebook page, to being more Private in OSCA Connect, and our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group

This will include messages and emails to/from OSCA, if there are no objections to the Album move!

Our Scotch 82 Active Admins will be the place where we discuss further decisions being made about our Year's Social Media Group Proposals, as they relate to our Social Media Adventure beyond our 40 Year Reunion.

It is envisaged that the Social Media Profiles we continue with, beyond our 40 Year Reunion, will also involve the possibility of a continued Group based decision making environment, and this forms part of our Contingency Planning discussion underway in our Scotch 82 Active Admins (Secret) Group.

Contingency Planning...

Leave No Man Behind (Scotch 82 Social Media Guideline).

As we start to think about life beyond our 40 Year Reunion, in approximately 18 months time, what will OSCA's Social Media Planning look like for Year Groups, and our Young Old Boys have taken a look into the future too!

Young Old Boys are now on Instagram (in addition to facebook), and our "Scotch82Insta" (link ->  https://www.instagram.com/scotch82insta/ )  Instagram Profile has started following them this year.

A wonderful initiative by some of the lads from the Class of 2012 is a facebook group called "Get Around Them".
The facebook group has a Mental Health and/or Friendship Pastoral Care and Support kind of focus.
Our OSCA YOBs have felt the need to encourage conversation/discussion around this kind of facebook group, and posted about it on their Instagram page.
If interested, here's the "Get Around Them" instagram profile link -> https://instagram.com/getaroundthem?igshid=lzy44i3elrf7

Scotch and OSCA Values

During this year, we've taken a look at Scotch (Family) Values, and so did Great Scot, in the May Edition -> https://view.joomag.com/great-scot-may-2020/M0028403001588208369

From the beginning of our Social Media together, we've been encouraging each other to "think of others", but at the end of the day our thoughts are with Scotch College Students, and their needs...

When we think about what a Scotch College Education has to offer our Society, our Scotch Family Motto of Deo Patriae Litteris, and then how we present ourselves in the Scotch College Prospectus, are we living up to what we say?  link to prospectus  ->   https://www.scotch.vic.edu.au/media/229673/Scotch%20College%20Prospectus.pdf

As a Year using Social Media, we have looked to our OSCA Chaplain, Graham Bradbeer, to provide a continuing affiliation we have with the Presbyterian Church ->  https://pcv.org.au/about/who/

We Are Part of the Presbyterian Church of Australia
We Are Christians Who Believe the Bible
We Are Christians Who Proclaim God’s Promises
We Are Practical Christians
We Are Relevant Christians
We Are Australian Christians
We Are ‘Presbyterian’ in Church Government

Graham, wife Christine, and regular contributors at Blackburn Presbyterian Church have live streamed on their church service to facebook ->  https://www.facebook.com/blackburnpresbyterian/videos/

In trying to identify the embodiment of our Scotch Family values, in Jesus, perhaps we can listen to this song, that Graham shared, by Larry Norman ->   https://www.facebook.com/1576575542618522/videos/1811498445792896

OSCA Trust...

OSCA's Trust towards Year Groups to develop Social Media Guidelines has been discussed in some length in our 2018 End of Year Wrap.  Scroll down to this heading after following the link ->   https://scotch82scco1982wraps2018.blogspot.com/2018/12/scotch-82scc-of-1982-wraps-2018.html

Scotch 82 Trust, Reformat, Guidelines, and Functional Integration

It's important that we keep up with OSCA Connect developments, and OSCA Connect website Photo Albums (see -> https://oscaconnect.com.au/ ) are starting to take shape, and our Scotch 82 Active Admins Group will keep a breast of other developments, as they come to hand.

Propose a OSCA Connect Group...

Young Old Boys have a Group within OSCA Connect, which is an age related group for those who have left Scotch College within the last ten years, and provides an opportunity for our YOBs to stay connected.  The YOBs, like many of their peers who are connecting around the world, will continue to be a great benefit to OSCA's future outlook.

At the time of writing, there is not a "Class of 1982" album, at this stage, but why not start one, if you're interested!?  It may even lead to consider starting a New Year Group, within OSCA Connect, that goes far beyond what we've been able achieve so far, on our Social Media Adventure.

Facebook Equal Admin's Published Post Stats

Scotch 82 Feedback...

facebook have updated their post feedback Stats, and our Scotch 82 Active Admins can keep up with how our Year Group's Posts are being received.

Furthermore, our OSCA's facebook page -> https://www.facebook.com/oldscotchboys has a similar kind of Stats feedback option, in addition to the Like/Comment/Share features that give all interested Old Boys the option to do a bit of Social Media research, for ourselves.

I am pleased to say, that without too much effort, we are now over half way to contacting the listed "Missing" Classmates.

Thanks everyone, as that's a great Year Group Social Media effort!
